BitLock

With the advent of apps and hardware that allowed people to enter their homes with a digital key, it’s high time the technology was used for commute-related purposes. Specifically, for bikes. BitLock is a U-lock that is part of the keyless bike lock system that lets cyclists use their smartphones to unlock it instead of an actual, physical key. This means added convenience to most bikers, especially those who habitually forget their keys.

However, BitLock is more than just a bike lock. It also comes with a GPS tracker and a fitness tracker that helps the user keep track of the distance that they’ve biked. The tracker also provides stats like amount of calories burned and carbon dioxide emissions avoided. It connects to your phone via Bluetooth, so you won’t even have to fish your phone out of your pocket in order to unlock your bike, since proximity works fine, too.

The BitLock system works with both Android and iOS devices. It is currently up for funding on Kickstarter, where a minimum pledge of $79 will get you one of your very own.
