Thank you very much. Most of us Americans are delighted that our country has pulled together to elect the right person for the job, and we're looking forward to effecting positive change in our country and in our international relationships. The fact that Barack Obama is African-American is icing on the cake, and is a sign that we've come a long way in a short time.

Hopefully in four years the naysayers will see that Obama is a great president, and will vote to re-elect him.

I don't know how to break this to you, but the recent economic troubles that have affected the US could just have easily happened if the Democrats were in the Whitehouse. I've got nothing against capitalism and the pursuit of profit, but both parties are basically controlled by corporate America.

Look at Obama's record setting campaign donations this year, for the first time in history the Democrats were better funded than the Republicans! It seems big business has finally learned that both sides are equally up for sale.

So while he seems like a nice guy and all, and has definitely captured the popular vote, let's stop pretending there's going to be any real change in the US in the next 4 years.

But 100% of the political posts I have seen on non-political blogs have run similar to this one. Best to stick with the blog's theme. That is what unites your readership. Introducing anything else is likely to spotlight our differences.

And David, don't presume you speak on behalf of everyone in Canada, not to mention the rest of the world. There are just as many people outside the US that are disappointed to see either McCain or Obama elected as the next US president, as those that are happy with the election results.

I've always liked that Ohgizmo seems impartial when it comes to gadgets, just presenting the facts and not claiming some piece of technology is more awesome than another. Let's keep it that way when it comes to politics too.

Thanks. Unfortunately it kinda of comes in a bittersweet package. California seems to have passed proposition 8, which takes away the rights of gays and lesbians to marry. Similar propositions and amendments passed in other states as well. Hopefully the new president will do something to bridge the gap of inequality in marriage here in the United States.

I tend to agree, I'm already growing tired of hearing self rightous Canadians and Europeans congratulating us as if we give a crap about what they think. We didn't elect Obama to please you douchebags.

Obama is against gay marriage

@ tintin – WRONG! The Republicans, namely our current Pres is the one who single handedly dorked up the world as it is today. Responsible for this nonsense war, in-turn the price of oil via OPEC's contempt for him, which in-turn screwed the economy of the U.S., and since so many other economies are linked to the U.S. Dollar, they suffer too. Obama is finally going to be able to proceed with realistic views, placing our people first, and bullsh*t like religion last (which have no place in politics AT ALL).
