It was a little weird when Nintendo announced the upcoming GTA: Chinatown Wars for the DS, but failed to provide any screenshots of what the game would look like. I mean let’s face it, as much as I love the DS, it’s not a graphics powerhouse, and the recent titles in the GTA series owe a lot of their success and popularity to their really great 3D engine. So a lot of gamers, myself included, were worried how a game like GTA could be successfully ported to the DS.

Last week we learned that the game would use a cel-shaded 3D engine and an isometric camera angle, but finally, as of yesterday, the first screenshots of GTA: Chinatown Wars managed to leak their way online to gaming sites Nintendo Everything and Gamekyo. The game looks like a hybrid between the newer GTA titles we’ve come to love, and the older 2D overheard versions of the game that quite frankly, I still really enjoy. It will be nice when we eventually get to see some videos of the game in action and an official release date, but these screenshots have definitely made me more anxious to get my hands on it.

  1. for ds they dont look like a ds standard see call of duty 4 and other games for ds they look way better than this but still you have to take game play first and graphics 2nd my opinion on gta chinatown wars right now is dissapointed until i see actual game play of gta china town wars i might change my mind . i thought it would be a least like gta 2 graphics which to me seem better than these but still. but since i;m a big gta gamer i will get this game well like it doesnt even stand up to the 4th installment but hey if im like on a road trip or just chilling outside i wouldnt mind playing gta china town wars.

  2. Why would rockstar waste their time on this when they could be working on GTA V. and who would go back to the aerial camera angle? if they are going to spend this much time on it, id expect them to make a real 3D version for the psp at least.
