15million-dollar-gold-plated-diamond-iphone

The above is ugly. At least, we think it’s ugly. It’s ugly and ostentatious and we show it to you because we’re as amused to learn of its existence as we were when we read about the guy who made himself a $230,000 shirt out of gold. We aren’t going to start making any social commentary on why we think some rich people feel the need to show off their wealth in a tasteless manner, but clearly it happens, and the least we can do is laugh at it. So, what’s with this phone? It was commissioned to British designer Stuart Hughes by a Hong Kong businessman only known as “Joe”. It’s gold plated, crusted with 600 white diamonds, and has a 26-carat black diamond centerpiece as the home button. Joe allegedly paid $15 million for the finished product.
