A big part of a healthy diet is eating sensible portions, but if you’re completely clueless when it comes to how much sugar, carbs, cholesterol or sodium is in a handful of your favorite snack, the Perfect Portions scale is like Nutrition 101. It’s a combination food scale & nutritional calculator that has a built-in database of 1,999 different foods, plus the ability to store an additional 99 custom entries. You just zero the scale, plunk down your food and then punch in the corresponding food code so the scale knows what it’s measuring. The nutritional stats, as well as the total weight, are then displayed on an LCD designed to look like the Nutrition Facts labels found on food packaging these days. As kitchen scales go the Perfect Portions goes above and beyond the call of duty, so the $59.99 price tag doesn’t seem that unreasonable.

  1. What a brilliant device. I do appreciate that it can zero the scale (in order to account for the weight of containers) or it might be a bit messy to use. Plus the programmable entires means i can finally measure my chicken curry…. assuming i knew how many calories were in it to begin with. I suppose all i need now is a device to figure the calories in custom dishes.

  2. Interesting device. I suppose this is the baby step way of helping solve America's weight issue. I hope this device does land and people use it.
