You’re probably not going to want to drink it depending on where you live, but these Petal Drops from Quirky are a great way to re-use plastic bottles, particularly the 2 liter variety. As long as the bottle has a standard thread, the Petal Drops simply screw on and turn the bottle into a miniature, and aesthetically pleasing, rain collecting barrel that can be used to water plants or even not die in an extreme survival situation. $5.25 each available directly from Quirky, bottle not included.

Not so great.
If you were to screw it on and set it out, by the time the bottle were half full it would have been sitting there for weeks (if not months) and the water would be stagnant.
It's unusual for any one average rainstorm to result in more than 10 mm per inch an hour.
The most violent rainstorms result in a max of 2 inches per inch per hour.
So to fill this up, you'd have to set it out in a typhoon for about four hours.
And a typhoon would probably knock over the empty bottle.
Still it's a cute concept…
