I like this alternative “bookshelf” because not only does it serve double duty as a coffee table but it also encourages people to actually pick up and read the books since it will probably end up being the center of attention in the living room. Designed by the unalboler Studio the table’s made of stainless steel and features what appears to be sliding panels providing access to all the books stored underneath.

The only thing I’m not too thrilled about is the fact you hang the books over thin metal wires. I’m a real stickler when it comes to preserving my books, particularly the harcover volumes and I’m not 100% sure this is the best way to do that.

  1. And anything that puts metal between the pages of the book is just bad to start off with if you want your books to last.

Unless the wire is really thin I would think that would be a great way to break the bindings on your books.
