Super Chocolate

As if normal chocolate by itself wasn’t good enough, scientists from the Australian Defense Science and Technology Organization are working on super chocolate to give to soldiers in place of vitamins. Yes, in place of vitamins. In fact, let me quote the scientists: “We could just give them a pill containing the same vitamins, but it would be nothing like giving them real food.”

Not only vitamins, but now chocolate is officially real food. The super chocolate won’t go stale for years, and has a higher melting point than normal chocolate. Although I can certainly see how this is practical in a desert environment, part of the appeal of chocolate is that it’s melting temperature is slightly below body temperature, which is why it melts in your mouth. Not so with super chocolate, which still tastes like chocolate, just with a firmer and more granular texture. It’s almost enough to make one question whether super chocolate is just a little too super for it’s own good.

  1. I don’t know if you have ever actually tried ‘army chocolate’ before because no matter how nutritious it could be, it never tastes as good as normal chocolate.
