iWear-AV310

By Chris Scott Barr

One contest is over, but it’s already time for another to begin. This time around we have a Vusix iWear AV310 to give away. We haven’t done any formal reviews on this particular item, but I have checked our a few of their other iWear products in the past. The device is essentially worn like a pair of glasses (along with a pair of integrated earbuds) and hooked up to some sort of video input. This can be an iPod, game console, DVD player or just about anything. The unit has a pair of tiny screens that gives you the the same feeling as watching a 52-inch TV.

If you spend a lot of time commuting, or just like to escape for a bit, this could be a fun way to do it. The best part is that you can get one for free. How can you win one? I’m glad you asked.

We have a lot of readers just like you that stop by OhGizmo on a regular basis. We love that you enjoy our work enough to keep reading and subscribing to our RSS and Twitter feeds. However, when it comes to comments and discussions, things are a little quiet around here. So with this giveaway, we’re going to encourage you to comment on new articles as you see them.

The contest is going to run until November 1st. On the following Monday, I will pick a random article written in the month of October, and select a comment. That person will receive the Vuzix iWear AV310. Simple, right?

There are, of course some stipulations. First, it’s only open to US readers. Second, in order for your comment to be selected, it has to be relevant to the article it was left on. We’re trying to encourage you guys to speak your mind about the topics we write about. You can comment on as many articles as you like, provided they are constructive. New comments posted on articles written before today will not be counted. This is to give a little bit of an edge to our readers who already feel the need to comment. We will likely be using this same format in the future, so you’re encouraged to keep commenting even after the contest has ended.

Good luck!

  1. I think we all can assume that exclaiming “First!” does not improve our chances of winning. Does complementing your hair improve our chances? Regardless, I just want to say, dude, your hair is awesome. I wish my hair was like that.

Those glasses sound like fun. Is it fair to say they offer an advantage over a big-screen TV? I mean, if you're enjoying your entertainment privately. I'm assuming the glasses could make it big enough to fill you entire field of vision. That brings me back to the days my grandmother rented a Nintendo Virtual Boy for me. Thank you, Grammy!

  2. The only bad part of comment's is that I dont do that much anywhere. On the glasses I've wanted something like that for awhile, but they are pretty pricey. Another thing is you had better be prepared to sit through the whole movie and knowing where you put the snacks and beverage!!

  3. These would be good primarily for use on airplanes or at home watching a PMP if someone else in the room is hogging the TV. They will more than likely cause headaches for prolonged use but is a neat novelty item to have on hand. On an airplane it would be good to drown out the noisy people or keep that strange person sitting next to you from talking to you.

  4. The concept of these iwear glasses have been around for quite a while now. I remember checking out a similar pair at the store in an airport the other day. While it's a cool Idea (and don't get me wrong, they're the coolest thing since the mp3 player) the resolution of the cheaper ones is no too much better than an ipod.

One really nice thing about them though is that you can use them anywhere…You don't have to squint at your ipod's screen or hold your hand in the same position for hours while you watch your favorite movie. I've always wanted a pair of these.

  5. If feel discrimated because its for US-residents only. I'm on a 6 hrs drive every Friday to see my girlfriend. I'm going by car-sharing and some of the commuters can be incredibly annoying. I just need one 😉

  6. HEYYYY!!! I gotta tell you something! I’ve been following Ohgizmo for over a year and think its the most awesome gadget blog on the net! for the last two weeks I’ve been trying to put comments up but this disqus commenting thing wont let me log in to comment and my mother won’t let me have a facebook! I have opened up my own twitter just so hopefully I can start commenting! I Love OhGizmo! Those glasses would be a huge improvement over my parents 27 inch CRT television from the 90’s!

  7. HEYYY! is this stupid disqus thing working? I’ve been following OhGizmo for over a year and have over the last two weeks been trying to put up comments except for the annoying fact that Disqus seems to have declared war on me and my online life and is doing all they can to keep me from posting! HELP! I WANT TO POST BUT DISQUS IS STOPPING ME!!!
and those glasses would be a huge improvement over my parent’s 27 inch CRT TV set from the 90s.

  9. This looks like a great product I could use while traveling by air for business or just visiting family the ability to completely tune out everyone on the plane and go off into my own space is a great idea.
    Thanks for the opportunity

  10. Actually would love to test these out. Been wanting to try a pair, and actually write a real review on the subject.

Most reviews written by people who are already biased on a certain thing.

  11. These are quite possibly one of the coolest things i've seen lately. I think that being able to dissconnect from the real world once in a while is a good idea. Life can get mundane with just a tv and a 4 year old running around in front of it… lol.

  12. i think these things would be great to use. nothing like being able to immerse myself into a video game or a movie while my daughter watches her shows she likes. Dora is fine and all, but i can only take her asking the same question 10 times an episode. lol. who ever wins these should let us know how well they work, that way i have a first hand experience to go off of while i’m thinking about buying some. (if i don’t win)

  13. Ive heard alot about these, mostly mixed opinions. some people like them and some hate them. itd be nice to give them a try myself and see if they live up to the description

  14. I was lucky enough to use a pair of these at a recent convention running GRID and I was actually pretty impressed. Alot of similar products are a bit pixelated or grainy but these were pretty clear. Sure not HD clear but well enough to not give you a headache a la Virtual Boy. The best part though, is that this device is completely plug and play.

I feel sorry for those saying they want these for long drives. I hope you have some kind of spider sense to drive blindly while watching movies through these haha.

    *crosses fingers*

  15. Loooove these glasses. Would loooooove to own a pair. I haven't read any reviews on them because this is the only site I visit and you haven't reviewed them! ; ) I'm like Jsteeg's parents, I have a 19″ TV!!
    And great hair BTW!

  16. Mhan i want to win one so bad. I got to travel almost 3 hours to and from my internship in the train. I got a stipud hug laptop that cant even last more then 30 minutes and got my to keep me company and would love to have one of those glasses to watch my series or even a movie on it to pass the time….. I really hope to get one…

I saw one of these item on ebay and on the net called Vglasses or soemthing like that for hte ipod and and iphone looked really look. I wonder when they will have a HD version or ones i am talkign aobut has clear glass on the side and ontop so oyu can still see what it happening around you.

  17. I have never played around with this type of gadget. Maybe it is the fear of looking goofy- but I think it is mostly the fear of falling in love with it and wearing them more often than night.
I am also addicted to wearing my sunglasses. So between the sunglasses and these things- no one would ever see my eyes. But I guess that also means no having to worry about applying eye makeup. How is that for taking a completely cool post and turning it into utter chick mode. ugh. hehe

  19. Looks sweet, I'd like to have one (for free of course).

Im not sure what I'd think if i saw somone looking through one of those on the bus, sort of robocop like.

  20. I sure would like to win the cool glasses. I wear glasses so its nice to hear there is an option to tweak the vision. Also, I would like to try hooking it up to the pc to use as a monitor so I could work from home using it as my monitor “sounds fun”. Of course watching the occasional flick or playing a ps3 game would be cool too.

    Thanks!

  21. Man, when every time i open Firefox, the only thing i can think of is “scroll down to the Vuzix Eyewear AV310 contest” I still cant help to fell that i might get something i have been looking forwards to since my i layed eyes on them. I have to win 'em! PS: you site is awesome and was always awesome! 😀

  22. I was wondering why there was a sudden burst of comments around here. Now I can use my insulting sarcasm on someone other than the writers. Don't worry though, I'll still throw some your way writers as I don't want you to feel neglected.

  23. OK, I spend every day reading through all the articles, so why not spend a little more time for a chance to win these cool glasses/TV?? I've already tried them out at my local MicroCenter and they are really cool. I've been planning on buying myself a pair for Xmas/

  24. It would be interesting to see how the technology has advanced. I recall some earlier attempts reported to cause dizziness and nausea. Also, I've always wanted a 52″ TV on my ceiling and I think this would be a lot easier than trying to mount something that won't fall on me.

  25. hahaha, yeah. My daughter doesn't like wearing normal glasses so i know she wouldn't dig these. But hey, thats why she has a mother. I'm usually with her all day, so a small escape would be nice once and a while.

  26. Ok I'll be the one to say it :

How great would it be to watch porn with these? I'm man enough to admit that porn would be the first thing I watch.

    That is all.

  27. “If you spend a lot of time commuting, or just like to escape for a bit, this could be a fun way to do it.”

I spend two hours on the train each workday, and these would be an awesome way to pass the time. It would also be great to let everyone know how well they do and do not work.
