Since the Commodore 64 was the first computer I ever owned, deep down I still have a soft spot for it. (Though technically the Apple IIe at my grade school might have been my actual first experience) Now while I was too young to really do anything productive with the system I know plenty of people were, and a few of them would even like to have access to the work they did back in the day. How you ask? Well by making their own USB to C64 1541 floppy drive adapter of course.

Now keep in mind this adapter isn’t going to turn that old drive into a USB mass storage device. It’s really just a way for developer types to access the data locked away in that shoebox full of 5 1/4 floppy disks. If you’ve got an afternoon free you can build your own adapter with the documentation that Till Harbaum has posted on his website. I will warn you though, it’s definitely not for novices like myself and is far from being just ‘plug and play.’
