Researchers from St. Louis University have invented a fuel cell that runs on virtually any form of liquid sugar. That sounds familiar… I would classify myself as a fuel cell that runs on liquid sugar.
The fuel cell should be three to four times more efficient than current lithium ion batteries, and this version trumps conventional fuel cells in that the fuel is tasty and available everywhere for cheap. Originally commissioned by the Department of Defense, the technology should be available commercially (yes, commercially) in three to five years, and a proof of concept demo battery (the size of a postage stamp) has already been used to run a pocket calculator. Sweet.
