Key Takeaways

There are really two levels to learning to play chess. Before you can get to all the fancy Fischer and Kasparov strategies you first need to learn the basics of how the pieces can move.

As kids my brothers and I learned to play chess in a similar manner to this. We had a special board that showed how every chess piece was allowed to move and we figured out the basics pretty quickly. However I think this idea of having every single chess piece labelled with how it’s able to move across the board is a better approach. I wonder if any of the pieces include that special move to counter a possible checkmate where you knock the board and all the pieces off the table, cause that’s an important one to know.

The Chess Teacher set is available from Miles Kimball for $17.99.
