Genuine Bristle Dartboard with Electronic Scoring (Image courtesy Hammacher Schlemmer)By Andrew Liszewski

Most ‘sports’ only require you to have the ability to count up by 1 point at a time whenever someone scores. Basketball and football does make things a bit tougher with different values assigned based on how you score, but not by much. Darts however is a whole other world since it replaces simple addition with both subtraction and multiplication… often at the same time! Needless to say I’m a big fan of electronic, self-scoring dartboards.

This one not only keeps track of the score for up to 8 players, but also uses a traditional bristle surface on the actual board. Since metal tipped darts simply slide between the bristles, the surface doesn’t show punctures, and self-heals when the dart is removed. Of course if you can’t find a friend to play with, let alone 7, the board includes a virtual opponent with realistic sound and vocal effects so you don’t feel quite as lonely. It even has a handicap feature if you get tired of being beaten by the computer player.

It can be found at Hammacher Schlemmer for $149.95.
