So it seems to me that the LCD picture frame and personal media player worlds are kind of on a collision course right now. While the media player manufacturers are making the size of their screens bigger and bigger the LCD picture frame makers are cramming more and more features into their own products. Case in point the EXEMODE DPS700 from Japanese company KFE.

While the resolution of the 7-inch screen is a bit disappointing at only 480 x 232 it makes up for it with support for JPEG, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, Divx 5.0, MP3 and WMA playback. The display doesn’t include any memory either but instead has a card reader supporting SD, MMC, CF, Memory Stick and xD in addition to a USB port for attaching a flash drive. Given how cheap flash cards are these days I would definitely prefer to buy my own instead of paying for overpriced included storage that’s rarely of a useful size. And like most digital frames already on the market the DPS700 includes a wireless remote that can also be used to control the video or audio functions in addition to the photos.

  1. Audio? Hmm, seems to me that a talking picture would be nice if it was from, say, your grandfather right before he died or something but I can?t see one for every day use.

  2. With respect to Kouroth’s comments, Digital Photo Frames feature an audio capability mainly to be able to play MP3 music at the same time as a photo slideshow, and to play movie files – they are generally not used for voice overs as you suggest…
