Halfbike

Want to ride a bike without actually, well, riding one? Sounds impossible but that’s exactly what you’ll be able to do with the Halfbike. As the name implies, it’s an alternative mode of transportation that’s inspired by the bike–or at least, half of it. It’s basically a pedal-powered Segway of sorts that comes with a single brake and a handlebar that looks like a gigantic joystick.

It was created by Kolelinia, who explains: “Halfbike is great for commuting and transforms it from a monotonous task into a vibrant part of our everyday life. It is suitable for short distances and in conjunction with public transport could be taken on board for longer trips. Halfbike is compact enough for an elevator, light enough to carry it on stairs and fits into spaces too small for a normal bike.”

The winning point has to be the one about portability for me, although you might want to go for a regular bike or a car, even, if you’re going someplace far. The Halfbike is currently up for funding on Kickstarter, where a minimum pledge of $899 will get you one of your very own.
