Break-ins are unfortunately on the rise, especially given how easy to obtain some lock picking tools have become. The Haven system hopes to fight back with a clever system of its own. It’s a solid plate that bolts to the floor directly in front of your door (on the inside, of course), and which features an electronically actuated lift gate that completely blocks the door when activated. It can be raised or lowered through a smartphone, either voluntarily or automatically as you get near. Better yet, should you want to grant access to someone while you’re away, you can log in and remotely lower the gate, since the unit is WiFi enabled. Made from steel, glass reinforced nylon and aluminum, the Haven system can stand up to kicks, battering rams, sledge hammers and more. And if the idea of bolting it to the floor doesn’t sit well with you, it can also be installed using a special 3M VHB Command Tape, which can withstand up to 3,000 lbs of tension.

Currently getting funded on Kickstarter, a $269 pledge will get you one.
