Segway, everyone’s favorite overpriced personal transporter from the future, has announced two new models: the x2 and i2. There’s a bunch of new features, perhaps the most notable of which is the introduction of LeanSteer? technology, which allows you to turn right or left by leaning in that direction, in the same fashion that forward/backward control is currently achieved. Current models rely on a handlebar control to turn. Presumably this would make the transporters even easier to maneuver.

Another addition is the use of and InfoKey? controller, essentially a keyless fob that increases security. The i2 has a range of about 24 miles, while the x2 goes only about 12 miles. Why the drop? Well, the x2 is the rugged cousin of the i2, with some serious tires and offroading capabilities. The price of this ruggedness is loss of range.

They have not lost any cost however, as the i2 will ding your wallet for $5,000, while the x2 will take a $5,500 bite.
