Long time readers of OhGizmo! will know that we try to set ourselves apart from the myriad other blogs out there by focusing on content that hasn’t already been rehashed tons of times elsewhere.  This means we’ll often eschew mainstream consumer electronics and talk about obscure items of marginal usefulness.  We do this because, well, it’s a lot more interesting to us, and we always hope you’ll feel the same.  And it’s also because at heart we like to stand out; we don’t want to follow the crowd. So when I was contacted by PF Flyers and asked to take a look at their shoes, I was intrigued.  Here is a brand with a venerable history, having been founded in 1937, and currently sitting under the New Balance umbrella. But it’s also a brand that not too many people have heard of, with an interesting array of styles to choose from. Their shoes are known for their comfort, the Posture Foundation insole, and they certainly display a keen sense of style.  I was graciously given a chance to get one of four pairs.

So, I decided to try out the Center-Hi Vintage model in black.  These are high top sneakers made out of a hearty canvas material, with a solid rubber toecap and bumper, and strong vertical ribbing.  The sole is white and thick, and contrasts strongly with the matte black of the shoe’s body.  I really liked them because of the old school look, and the confident allure of the front part of the shoe.  I don’t like shoes that are too pointy, and considering current pant styles favour skinnier cuts, I often feel like I’m wearing clown shoes if my footwear appears to be too long and thin.  The Center-Hi Vintage are rounder and slightly wider, which gives them a heavy and imposing stance. The company logo on the side further reinforces that old-school 60’s vibe that attracted me to them in the first place, and I feel like they just look good.

The real magic, however, begins the minute you put them on.  The Posture Foundation insole is a fantastic addition to these sneakers.  Your foot feels embraced and hugged, and your every step is cushioned.  It’s really hard to convey in words just how comfortable they are, so you’ll just have to take my word for it: they’re very comfortable. The sole isn’t too thin, so your foot is insulated from little irregularities in the ground, like tiny pebbles.  The rubber is super grippy, and I feel like I can bounce around in these all day.  The fit is just right; my feet aren’t wide or narrow, so there was absolutely no fitment issues.  That’s not to say they wouldn’t be able to accommodate differently shaped feet, considering the soft canvas that makes up the body.  When laced properly, you feel snug and secure, and that’s a great thing from what’s arguably the most important garment you wear.

You guys should consider visiting the PF Flyers website and picking a style that suits you best.  It’s a great way to stand out from the crowd and get noticed. They’re priced just right, and their styles are fresh and classy.  I know I’ll be wearing mine until they basically disintegrate, which could take a while considering the superior quality.
