Smartphone Airbag

The first time I dropped my phone, it had nary a scratch on it. The second time I dropped it, the screen cracked and it was time for a new phone. The thing is, people drop their phones every day, and protective cases don’t really do much protecting, since they usually break along with the phone.

So to deal with this, the smart, creative, and kooky folks at Honda’s concept lab came up with air bags for smartphones. It hooks up with the phone’s accelerometer, which can detect when the phone has been dropped. Once it does, the air bags are deployed for a (hopefully) safe landing with nothing breaking upon impact.

Want it? Sorry to disappoint you. It’s only a concept–for now, that is.
