Transparent Canoe-Kayak Hybrid (Image courtesy Hammacher Schlemmer)By Andrew Liszewski

When canoeing I’ve never been that interested to see what’s passing under the boat, but then again I’ve never canoed in an exotic locale like is pictured here.

From Hammacher Schlemmer comes this canoe-kayak hybrid that is made from a transparent polymer offering a near unobstructed view of the wildlife or waterscapes passing underneath. Worried about the durability? Apparently the canoe is made of the same material used in the cockpit canopies of supersonic fighters. Coupled with a lightweight anodized aluminum frame the canoe-kayak is also easy to transport and store. The hybrid is also built to be a bit wider than a conventional canoe or kayak giving it more surface stability and allowing the riders to sit lower to the deck. The downside of course is that it’s probably less suited to more choppy waters as a result.

At $ 1,459.95 the Canoe-Kayak Hybrid isn’t cheap but the next time you’re on vacation just convince those other touristy types to pay you for official glass-bottom boat tours and odds are you can make your money back pretty quickly.
