It looks like Japanese company DID (although, strangely, they’ve registered a Belize domain name…) took an I-Tech virtual laser keyboard, fiddled with the software, and got it to project a piano, instead of a keyboard. From there, it was just a matter of getting it to play piano noises when specific keys are struck, and what you’ve got is a portable virtual laser piano.
It projects a 25-key 2-octave piano keyboard and a CMOS camera module and infrared (invisible) red semiconductor laser module detect which keys are touched. It plays three “instruments”: organ, pipe organ and harpsichord. Comes out in November for about $130.
