Orbit1 Brings Electroplating To The Home

orbit1-1

You may have bought a 3D printer, and that’s all well and good, but maybe you’re growing tired of making plastic objects. Plastic is great and all, but you know what’s nicer? Metal. Now, with the Orbit1 Tabletop Electroplater, you can take a freshly printed object, and plate it in Copper or Nickel, with options for Gold and Palladium if the company’s crowdfunding goes well. The way it works starts with you polishing and finishing your object as well as you can. Then you have to spray it with a conductive paint and wait a few minutes for it to dry. When that’s done, just dip it in the electroplating solution and wait as the process completes. An app will allow you to track progress, and in as little as a few minutes or up to a couple of hours (depending on the desired thickness of the coating), you’ll have a metal object that you printed at home.

Want to make your loved one a nice ring? This is the way to go. Heck, it doesn’t even have to be something you printed; you could make a gold plated tree leaf for all you care. The machine itself will set you back a hefty $1,999, while the electroplating solution works out to about $2 per gram, in Copper. That’s a heck of a lot, but could be a nice investment for someone looking to start a small business, maybe an Etsy shop or something. If the funding is completed, expect delivery by August 2016.

The Lazy Person’s Dream: Smart Lights

Every weekday, our friends at Faveable compile a list of awesome gadgets and gear that men would love to discover.

Wait, we’re not calling you lazy. We promise. But, we’ve all been a little too passive to deal with the lighting situation in the house. Sometimes, you’re working diligently in a corner of the room (only half paying attention to the TV) as the sun dips below the horizon.  You need the lights on, but… you just want to get through “this one thing!” And then there’s the moment when you’ve gotten comfortable on the couch and just discovered that new Netflix release that is certain to change your life (and watercooler chatter). Getting up to dim the lights is a hassle sometimes. That’s why the faveable team spent time checking out all the smart lights that might just change your life. And really, we’re not calling you lazy either (though you might be – just a little – after you go through the selections.)

Bruno Is The World’s First Smart Trashcan

bruno

It’s called Bruno, and it’s a connected trash can. You may wonder why your trash can needs to be connected, but let us assure you this is a really cool product, but not for its “connected features.” In fact, Bruno is more than a can, it’s also a vacuum. See that opening at the bottom? Well, it sucks stuff in. So the way you use Bruno is that you broom around your house, but instead of bending over with a dust pan and walking over to the can, you just sweep it right up to Bruno, who’ll then suck it up. Sensors on the inside alert you when you need to change the collection bag, and it stores a bunch of empty bags so you don’t have to go around looking for new ones when it’s time to take the trash out. And of course, it is a trashcan, a motion sensing lid opens up for full hands-free operation. It’s battery operated, so you can move it around the house, and it won’t need a charge for around 30 days!

It’s a decent looking trashcan with innovative features that amply justify the $159 asking price, on their fully-funded Kickstarter campaign. But don’t wait until it hits retail shelves, because the price then goes up to $229.

Ice Cap Chills And Aerates Your Wine In Seconds

1_IceCap_LS-8426_SHOP

Good wine can be fussy. It needs to be served chilled, and preferably let to breathe for a bit. But with the Ice Cap, you can expedite the process somewhat. It’s a refrigerated funnel of sorts that cools and aerates your wine as you’re pouring it into your glass. Simply place the Ice Cap in the freezer for a few hours, then place it on top of your glass and pour your room-temperature wine. The wine will run through the chilled coils, aerating and cooling down at the same time, dropping any beverage’s temperature by up to 10 °C in seconds. We’re not sure how many glasses it’s able to handle before it need to be cooled down again, but we can’t imagine it not being able to handle at least a couple of them. For $35, it’s a handy gadget to keep in the kitchen.

Think Of The Haba Baudino Spilling Funnel XXL As 3D Sand Castle Printing

this-sand-funnel-mixes-water-and-sand-to-create-sand-structures-0

Playing around in the beach invariably involves building some kind of structure with wet sand. Humans have probably been doing this since forever, and a good number of toy and accessories have been invented over the years which purport to help or assist in the process. The Haba Baudino Spilling Funnel XXL is one such toy. It’s a hand-held funnel that fills up in part with water, and the other part with sand. You then use it to create whatever you want, since the line of sludge that comes out the tip solidifies almost instantly, turning your hand into a 3D printing head. Sure, the resolution on this won’t be stellar, and maybe you’ll have to sand some edges (see what we did there?), but in the end you’ll have your kid (or even yourself) playing around in the beach, being creative, and hopefully exercising some sort of intellectual skill that these kinds of toys are supposed to stimulate. It’s $9.49.

Can The Force Help You Afford This $10,000 R2-D2 Pinball Table/Coffee Table?

R2-D2-coffee-table-pinball-machine-1

You have to be a serious fan of the franchise to consider dropping 10 large on a coffee table. Sure, it’s decked out to look a lot like R2-D2. And sure, it’s got a fully functional pinball table as its core. And yeah, sure, there’s even a mini slideprojector (picturing R2 in the Death Stars’ sewage), a flashlight, sounds, lighting programs, and a fully functional animated droid on the play field. And ok, yeah, it did take over 320 hours to assemble… But $10,000? Yeah. That’s a heck of a lot for a piece of functional furniture, no matter how cool it looks. Still, if you’re really motivated, it does look like the company, Altar Furniture, will make you one.
